PHD

What is Phd ? is that doctor of philosophy or permanent head damage ?? he he
Now i start to accept that Phd is permanent head damage, that definition is not joking even it happen in my life now.

Why permanent head damage:

1. Every weak should report to the professor about something or many things that he/she assigned for me.

2. Every weak should crumble down the project for each subject that i took for this semester, i am first semester now (2012/12)

3. need to prepare qualifying exams

4. need to prepare international Journal, at least two

5. need to prepare dissertation

even i think that phd is like we are working hard but we dont get money for that, even we dont have a company for that.

so we are working for something that not sure.

but in other hand, i felt that i am so lucky took this Phd program, since i can study many things, i can learn by my self, improve my skill, analysis, and all about knowledge.

there will always have positive and negative in a case.

just depend on us how we see half a glass of water / (be an optimist one or pessimist)

i wrote this blog in my study room HB72, Asia University Taiwan.
and i am not sure i have a free time or not right now.

Fine Dining

I got the invitation for Fine Dining last month, November 2011 in Taiwan. On that invitation there is dress code that i should wear to enter the room, and the dress code is semi-formal.

Therefore i am confuse with 2 words above, what is fine dining ?, and what is semi-formal dress code ?

Before comes to that definition, i would like to tell you about my story when i came on that invitation.

Overall, the atmosphere is elegant, the music is Jazz, i remember one song is "the way you look tonight", all people dress formal and elegant, i was so lucky to wear blezer and jeans if not i will out of dress code.

therefore be careful with semi-formal dress code, at least you use blezer but it will be better if you can wear young executive dress code.

and fine dining is a dinner, the food is well prepare, and waitress and waiter use white dress code, serve well, and the menu will come on the schedule, so first time may be first menu and until last time last menu.

then i enjoy that fine dining night, nice talk with doctor Victor and his family in that table.

when love can not be achieved

I just want to share about how sad, upset and disappointed when love cant be achieved.

But in my mind i never insist myself to reach it again so just let it be, all is well, everything gonna Be OK. and i believe GOD will give the best for me.

And this way/method have a significant positive impact for myself, i can move on, and my jargon is We walk for future not for past time so why worry ?.

For me love is one thing when person can accept and giving anything from his couple, and blind for other choice and have a strong commitment.

Taiwanese tradition in celebration Lunar new year

Lunar new year is one of big celebration for Taiwanese and they have a tradition to stay together in their grandpa house and take a dinner together with all family.

In dinner time, the ancient believe that when they eat fish for dinner in Lunar new year, they should left some part of fish.

why ?

because they trust that when you go to new year means you left something in previous year, so that was why they should left some part of fish. and it was just tradition.

everyone will busy on that day, the food store, restaurant and such of that will get much money since Taiwanese will celebrate it outside home too either with their family or friends.

How Important Destination Language For Foreign Students

Many case will be found that when we study abroad, we will face language barrier. and i felt that right now. even if destination university provide international class, sometimes they also will included local student in that class. so sometimes the Professor will use bilingual language. for the local student and foreigner.

Something that make me sad is that when i join group meeting, so everybody is prefer to use their own language to communicate each other then English language, so i am minority, and sometimes when i come to my group meeting i will not get anything since i do not know their language and mandarin language is the most difficult in worldwide.

So my suggestion to all of students who want pursue study to abroad, you should learn destination language because it will be so important and give big contribution to your study.

so prepare it beside English language skill

winter at Taiwan

this is my second winter period in taiwan, today november, 8th. 2010, the temperature is around 13 celcius, i should wear a warm jacket definately.

in my point of view, the beauty and unique about the wheather in Taiwan is that : in the same time this formosa state is able to have 3 seasons, for example : Taipe is so cold around 5 celcius, substantially Taichung is more warm around 13 celcius and Kaoshung could be 20 celcius. so those are the different winter of Taiwan.

beside we felt cold in a winter term, taiwan also popular with its wind, so it make the situation become more cold, the wind sometimes blow strong, so we should prepare winter costum well.

and sometimes the wheather will change suddenly is like summer, so taiwan wheather is unique

Paper yang saya maksudkan disini bukanlah bahasa inggris untuk kertas . Namun sebuah tulisan ilmiah yang seringkali erat kaitannya dengan dunia pendidikan atau penelitian. Bagi yang masih berkutat dengan dunia perkuliahan, seringkali kita mendapatkan tugas untuk membuat paper dari dosen kita. Atau mungkin bagi yang akan maju ujian tugas akhir, thesis atau disertasi, kita perlu membuat paper sebagai resume (atau bahkan bagi yang akan membuat proposal tugas akhir, bisa digunakan untuk menuangkan ide kita). Termasuk bagi peneliti atau dosen yang ingin melakukan publikasi juga dituntut untuk membuat paper. Lalu bagaimanakah cara membuat paper yang baik ?

Membuat paper yang baik memang sulit, namun kita bisa mencobanya. Bongkar-bongkar dari materi kuliah Technical English Writing yang saya ambil semester lalu, ada beberapa hal yang ingin saya bagi (baru sempat nulis skr ). Bagi yang punya pengalaman lain monggo silahkan kalau mau berbagi. Materi ini adalah untuk english writing tapi saya akan coba sadur dalam Indonesia. Semoga bermanfaat.

Paper terdiri dari beberapa bagian (intinya berisi hal-hal berikut, tidak menutup kemungkinan untuk menyelipkan bagian lain yang dianggap penting) :

• Judul dan nama penulis beserta keterangan untuk penulis (institusi dan email jika ada, atau nomer registrasi mahasiswa dan email untuk tugas kuliah)
• Abstract yang merupakan rangkuman dari paper kita
• Introduction (pendahuluan), biasanya berisi hal-hal berikut (tulis garis besarnya saja) :
• deskripsi yang jelas tentang permasalahan (disebut juga dengan tujuan (purpose))
• Tunjukkan mengapa permasalahan ini penting, menarik, dan menantang (motivasi)
• Review yang singkat dan jelas mengenai penelitian sebelumnya yang menjadi dasar penelitian kita (scope)
• Tunjukkan gap/masalah yang ada pada penelitian sebelumnya dan menjadi pertanyaan yang ingin kita selesaikan dalam penelitian kita (gap indication)
• Tulis dengan jelas solusi yang diusulkan (proposed approach) dan bagaimana ia bisa mengatasi gap yang kita sebutkan sebelumnya (solution)
• Tuliskan secara global penemuan yang dihasilkan (result)
• Tuliskan struktur penulisan bagian-bagian berikutnya (outline)
• Related Work (penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya yang mendasari penelitian kita). Related work inilah yang nantinya akan kita tuliskan ke dalam daftar referensi.
• Methodology (untuk bidang komputer atau penelitian yang ada hubungannya dengan komputer dapat menggunakan istilah system architecture). Jelaskan methodology yang digunakan, biasanya dijelaskan dengan bagan atau gambar untuk mempermudah pembaca memahami isi paper kita. Jelaskan pula deskripsi masing-masing bagian dalam gambar kita tersebut.
• Experiment & result. Tuliskan eksperiment yang kita lakukan (data yang digunakan, jumlah data, sumber, dll) dan tuliskan hasil yang didapatkan beserta analisa dari hasil yang kita peroleh
• Discussion. Tuliskan hal-hal yang ingin anda sampaikan dan isue yang menarik dari penelitian yang kita lakukan. Termasuk kesimpulan dan saran untuk penelitian kita lebih lanjut. Saran biasanya identik dengan future work.
• Referensi, berisi semua referensi yang kita gunakan termasuk daftar paper di related work, buku atau resource yang mendukung yang kita gunakan untuk menyelesaikan penelitian kita.

Untuk proposal tugas akhir cukup gunakan point no 1, 3, 4, 5, dan 8, pada bagian metodologi perjelas input, proses dan output. Atau sesuaikan dengan template yang diberikan di universitas.

So, bagi yang mendapatkan tugas untuk buat paper, entah untuk dikumpulkan sebagai tugas kuliah, atau untuk dipublikasikan tak ada salahnya untuk mampir menikmati catatan saya kali ini

Part timer job In Abroud

first, absolutely across in our mind part time job in abroad will generate much money, because of the different of state currency, many students will utilize this chance for additional income, especially students from developing country who pursue their study to develop country, in particularly, Indonesian students who study in Taiwan, Thailand students who study in China and so forth. because of that many people take that chance to collect money

how come we can get the part time job :
1. Language : English and resident language/the place to pursue study
2. Attitude : behave and make sure everything is OK
3. Skill : always Carefully and Faster in working

about salary, if we compare between Indonesia and Taiwan, part time job's salary in Taiwan would really satisfied, for example 1 month work in restaurant, twice in a week, we can get about 5.000 NT it is equal with almost 2.000.000 Rupiahs

so in my point of view, no reason for international students from developing country who pursue study to develop country will feel burden in economic

chinese new year

Chinese new year is celebrated in worldwide for the Chinese ethnic, start from 13 to 21 of February people will busy inside that activity, as a tradition in the first day people will be together with their big family for dinner, next people will go to the family of father, next people will go to the family of mother and further people can visit their friends house and then they can refreshing and take a rest.

1 thing that most famous in Chinese new year is Red Amplop "ampau", usually the older one will give to the younger one, the amount of money is up to us, some people sometimes give money based on the meaning of how much money they give, for example : if you give man money as much as 1 Dollar it means that start something new from zero and be better...

In my point of view, this tradition is seem like Lebaran Idul Fitri for Moslem, pretty much same about the hole of activity, the most important that we can be together with our family..

Plus Minus Computers For The Toddler

Computers can be used as a means of stimulation. However, do not let children addiction for that.
The question is, may the toddler introduce to the computer? The answer, it's okay. Moreover, this technology can not be avoided to use in the present and future.
However, there are a few things should consider by a parent, such as:
1. Introducing computers peripheral
The first step is to introduce children to the computer hardware, such as where the mouse, keyboard, Central Processing Unit (CPU), modem (if visible), speakers, and monitors. Explain each function one by one according to the understanding of the child.
Principally, the child can touch the device if not connected to electricity directly. Take care for the cable and environment around the computer area in order to avoid short circuit occurs or the possibility attack by electric shock by certain parts of the computer device. we do not need to teach toddlers how to turn on the computer because it is usually in contact with the stabilizer directly related to electrical wires.
In order for the introduction of the computer device is comfortable, find the child table or chair in accordance with his size (ergonomic). That way, the toddler can use it with ease. For example, do not let the location of the mouse and the monitor is too high so that the heads should look up that can cause fatigue. Just so you know, tools are not ergonomic work was not good for the anatomy of the child for the long term.
2. Recognizing Edutainment program
Initially focused on computer data processing. However, because the rapidly growing technology, today computers have become a means of information and education. Well, the second thing that can try is to introduce children to the application programs (software) that are educating and entertaining is the combination of education and entertainment. Application program is able to develop creativity, imagination, and train child motor nerves. For example, a game know it, make a simple pasel, looking for the same thing, knowing letters, knows colors, songs, and so on. Usually, for the toddler who emphasized the introduction of pictures, colors, and sounds.

actually for this case ofcourse there are positive effect and negative effect, it depends on parents in managing this method so that we can avoid the negative effect.

positive effects : it can stimulate the toddler brain, trigger them to further study, and teach them to concentrate in something and so forth.
negative effect : radiation effect of monitor, so parents should setting the monitor, about the distance between monitor and user and then ligthening in the room and so forth, and then software selection, the matterial should not have abusement and violation. limitation of time so that the toodler do not addict with computer.

Tips to be ready study in the morning

Actually this is just on my experience and i found one theory for "brain exercise" and i think it works because i felt that and i can absorb all the knowledge that was given by the Professor in the morning in that time, and i am really shock and willing to write here, come on here we go :

During learning process in the morning to obtain the maximum result we should ready to get the

knowledge from our teacher, and how to manage your brain is :

1. wake up early may be at 05.00 a.m

2. Doing "brain exercise", read your books at least for thirty minutes for the lessons that you will face on that day

3. dont come late and breakfast


may be it just a simple tips, but if you be one of international students in abroad it would be very

useful for you, because you should pass the grade especially for scholarship program unless you

will loss anything

Study in abroud

When you want to study in abroad there are a few thing that you should prepare, such as :

1. english language
2. destination language
3. money
4. skill / method for study
5. willingness and high motivation

let me explain point by point above he he :

ENGLISH SKILL
when you are able to speak english it will really help you since english is international language, and almost lectures, teaching and learning process will use english. prepare your self, you should have a brave to speak, pronunciation, and practice

DESTINATION LANGUAGE
we need to know about local language in destination country, because it would help you to communicate, buying food, english is not always able to be understood by local people, and one benefit again you can work part time by local language

MONEY
if you study abroud not from scholarship program i am sure that you are Rich but else means you follow scholarship program, you should prepare your money at least 10 million in the early, it would include all the thing such as : ticket, any requirement, insurance and anything before scholarship incentive comes to you. even if you got scholarship incentive you still need to manage your financial, may be you can cook by your self, it would be really help to save our money..

SKILL/METHOD FOR STUDY
commonly all books, papers will available in english, presentation also will always happen, sometimes lectures will use local language, so when you want to apply for scholarship you should ask to the officer, does that program will be taught in english ??, it really need, so make sure for that. the most important that you have a high motivation to study....

WILLINGNESS AND HIGH MOTIVATION
this part is the most important thing, controlling your self, focus and enjoy, the way is that make a planning what would you achieve as long as you study abroad, praying, smile, chatting he he and so forth...

How if i do not have a religion ?

This topic appear when i ask some student that major in English at Asia University Taiwan in English corner session

Me : have you a religion ?
student : no i do not have

when i hear that statement, actually little bit shock but i think it is fine

so rise a question in my mind :

1. What is a benefit and harmful to have a God or not ?
2. Whether we should proud to people who does not have a religion ?

In one side i think that is a real freedom, what is needed is that tolerate and self controlling ( People in Taiwan was implement that, does Indonesian that really support democracy and tolerance is able to implement that ? )

In answering the issue number one above :
i think some of rule from god is able to control us and as a principal of life, so it becomes a good pointer for human, but in the different point of view human is able to create their own principal of life since all the thing will comeback to each people awareness

in some research : some people said that the different is in stress level in human, people who have religion will have more stable for controlling their self ( may be yes may be no ).

for responding the issue number two above :
people have their own way, none people can intervene in people right especially whether they need to have a religion or not, so absolutely i proud of them, because they believe with their choice.

how to create Autobiography ?

David Agustriawan received a Bachelor degree in Information Technology from Amikom University in 2008. During his undergraduate study, he focused his skill in : Database and programming language, in other hand he also was really interested in foreign languages, right now he is able to speak three foreign language, such as : English, Germany, Mandarin. His thesis for undergraduate level created a mapping area of tourism object in South Sumatera, Indonesia. In his undergraduate study in Yogyakarta. Indonesia, He worked as a web programming for freelance, translator for English-Indonesia and vice versa at Medikom translator company and become adjudicator for English debating competition around Yogyakarta and in national English debate competition since he was part of Yogyakarta debating forum and he got A for adjudicator accreditation score in national grade. After graduation, he worked as lecturer assistance at Amikom University for 1 year in some courses such as : introduction of information technology, programming language C++, and database processing. He also serves as coach of English debating society at Amikom University for training all Amikom debaters to compete in national level and also to encourage and develop English skill for Amikom students. Furthermore He also taught for internet programming courses at ABA Cinema University as long as 1 semester. And currently, he was continue his study in master level at Asia University, Taiwan. And major in Bioinformatics. In the meantime, he has been with international language corner at Asia university as an English teacher, particularly to improve the communication skill for students since august 2009. Tips become the best in academic

actually everyone have known how to be the winner because all of us were born to be a winner.
I just want to share about how my way to be the best in academic, simple the answer is that study, may be the different with other is that method in studying.

let me tell you my methods in study :

1. One book for one course

2. The time for study, if possible everyday, i usually start at 19.00 - 21.00 then 05.00 - 06.00 and one day : 1 until 3 course so it is for 1 semester, ex : Monday : i learn about Biology, English then Tuesday : i learn about Computer and so fort.

3. Do that continuously

4. Following the extra course if you need, example : mandarin course or etc

5. For the course is like : Programming, it need more exercise, so you need more explore your self in try the formula and then make a program, analyze the program, learn the programs in programming book.

Motivation :

Before you try never think you can not do (-1 is better then 0), you will not know your ability since you never try

Defeating and winning is needed, when you got both of that, you are able to be a strong man

Tips for speaking and writing english

In learning english : writing and speaking we will find two different between west people and east people :

1. In writing east people usually more explanation and not to the point so 1 sentence is not clear enough. They prefer to make it as long as possible. In other hand west people never do that, they make 1 sentence become clear able to understand.

In scientific paper eg: thesis. We must use west people style in writing

2. In speaking, west people always carefully with their pronunciation (a, i, u, e, o), we should clearly spell that in speaking, and east people do not focus on that even never learn about that, our teacher just give us more in grammar

So if you want to be good spoken English, you should carefully with two tips above

two weeks at taiwan

as a new comer and still dont understand yet about mandarin language, i think it so difficult for foreigner to enjoy taiwan, because communication become barrier

and i try my best to understand about mandarin language soon, i promise ^_^

live in dorm at asia university somehow make me can not enjoy my room, because i have 3 roommate and as you know, i will not have a privacy, i can not manage the room, i should consider their feeling everyday, so i should stop to over talk and over do, i lost my freedom

even if i am really happy in getting this full scholarship, somehow i feel bored in taiwan, especially in my room, what should i do god ???, hope all will be ok....

for last five days, i felt so bored, i ca not concentrate in my study, i need to refresh my self, i want go outside the dorm...

debate is so helpful for master degree because the method that use in debating is also pretty much same even equal for us to presentation our original paper and use the method of debate, and during the class we also always discuss about the course and debate skill is so helpful
